Today, the last tissue in the box was used. This happens about 87 times per year in a classroom. Who knows, that may be some exaggeration. I've never counted, but it happens a lot. It hit me today that there is a way to reuse these in the classroom so they don't have to be thrown into recycling, or the trash like happens a lot. These tissue boxes are perfect for holding things. So, I decided to use them in the classroom, well, for holding things.
There are tons of ways to reuse these boxes in the classroom. I'm sure you will think of many more that are great ideas. Feel free to share them in the comments. Also, for those teachers that have the gift of making everything pretty, you can decorate them for specific uses.
Some specific uses that were discovered for empty tissue boxes are:
Pencil Box (Short long boxes.)-Some students don't buy these or have theirs break throughout the year. This could be a replacement.
Pencil Holder (Tall skinny boxes)-These can be placed at a desk or center to hold the pencils standing up.
Trash Box-Place them at the center of a group for students to place trash. The box can later be emptied into the trash can.
Treasure Box-It can be used to keep treats where students can pick from the treasure box as a reward.
Random Name Selector-Place the students' names into the box. When you need a helper or volunteer you can randomly select a name from the box.
Lost and found-It would have to be small items, but the students liked the idea of using it to have a "Lost and Found" Idea/Mail Box-If students need to tell the teacher something, this can be used as a mailbox so students won't interrupt the class.
